Description
Birds of Hosmer Grove, Maui, Hawaii. The Hawaiian i‘iwi Honeycreeper (Drepanis coccinea) is native to Hawai‘i and found in the upper forested elevations of Maui and other islands. I‘iwi have a long, curved beak perfectly adapted for extracting nectar from flowers like ōhi‘a lehua and māmane (shown). They also feed on nectar from other native and non-native flowers found in the area.
